My name is Tracy O’Brien and I live on the wonderful Isle of Wight.

In the summer of 2019, I became interested in the textile heritage of the Isle of Wight, specifically in the Gansey.
Many generations of seafaring folk have traditionally worn this garment, although no records remain today. I have begun recreating them from old photographs in order to keep the tradition of these beautiful garments going.
Traditional Gansey knitting is on the Endangered Red List of crafts at risk, so this is my attempt to keep them alive, share the skills, and recreate them for future generations.
